The proposal restores an existing single-storey heritage façade, with the addition of an eight-storey office building above. In contrast to the solid red-brick ground floor, the addition is cloaked in a light, perforated expanded mesh operable façade. This creates a legible definition between existing and new – a floating box on a solid podium.
The expanded aluminium façade has an anodised finish and softly reflects its surrounding environment- its colours subtly changing throughout the day. The double skin façade of shutters and operable glazing provides solar control and natural cross ventilation.
