The Kuska School, Peru
Fieldwork has an ongoing relationship with the Kuska School in Peru, doing pro bono design work for their new campus. Located in Ollantaytambo – the childhood home of one of our directors, Quino Holland – the school sits 2,800 metres above sea level between the city of Cusco and the world-famous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. The school pursues a curriculum based on pillars of interculturality, environmental sustainability, and interlearning.
The new campus is being designed with sensitivity towards the landscape, in collaboration with the local community, and will use traditional construction materials and techniques. Fieldwork hopes to develop a sustainable prototype for future development in Peru that celebrates the cultural richness of the region and enables a quality learning experience.
