121 Lygon St, Brunswick East
Situated on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation, 121 Lygon St is a six-story residential development with hospitality tenancies along the ground floor, and our latest collaboration with Milieu.
The proposal steps down to Edward Street, lining the western boundary with a row of eight townhouses to provide a transition in scale with the adjoining residential buildings. The design then steps up to the six-storey apartment building to Lygon Street.
The material palette at Lygon St is rich and tactile. The terracotta of the ribbed concrete base references Brunswicks industrial history‐ the concrete varies naturally in tone, and is offset by a smooth concrete dado at street level. To the west of the building, a charcoal volume plays with textural differences in material, from hit-and‐miss brickwork, to finely profiled metal cladding. The interior palette uses a mixture of maroon stone, with rich timber and earthy green tones. This palette is offset against metal detailing and exposed concrete ceilings.
